Supply and installation of doors and windows in Hampshire
When Frances and her family moved into a farmhouse in Hampshire, they knew that over time, the existing wooden windows and front door would need to be replaced. They were beginning to rot, were draughty and no longer offered a great deal of sound protection.
In the Winter of 2017, Frances was passing the Showroom in Hartley Wintney, so she called in to have a look around. Frances said “Sherborne Windows were fantastic! They guided me through the Timber Windows range of products in the Showroom, answering any questions I had.” Frances was keen to find a local company with a good reputation, who had years of experience in the supply and installation of doors and windows. By the time she left the Showroom, she had placed an order for two timber windows. Frances continued “Once the first two windows had been fitted, we knew that we could trust Sherborne Windows with the remaining doors and windows throughout our home. In 2018, we ordered a further 7 windows and a door.”
New timber windows reduce heat loss within the home
The Farmhouse is situated at the top of a hill and is exposed to the elements. The old windows offered little protection against the wind and rain outside. The new double-glazed windows offer excellent thermal efficiency, which ensures each of the rooms maintain a constant temperature, with improved sound protection.
Factory painted windows require very little maintenance
Aesthetically, the farmhouse looks fabulous, with White windows and a front door in a contrasting luxurious Silk Grey finish, referred to as Porcelain, RAL 7044. Every window receives a coat of timber preservative, followed by a coat of primer before having two coats of factory applied micro-porous coatings of paint, prior to assembly. This regulates any moisture, allowing air to pass through the paint surface, so the timber can breathe. The result is a flawless paint finish, which requires very little maintenance.
Some-time after the windows were fitted, Frances arranged for the outside walls to be re-pointed. This produced a lot of dust, as the lime mortar had to be scraped out. The windows were so well sealed that no dust entered the home. Frances said: “Once the re-pointing had been finished, the windows were hosed and cleaned and the paintwork looked as good as new.”
High security timber front door
The front door is an impressive 7ft high and is positioned beneath a new porch canopy with wooden gallows brackets. As the front of the house is South-facing it was reassuring to know that the Engineered timber used to manufacture the door was warp and twist resistant and was fitted with high specification glazing. Frances considered which style of front door would best suit the farmhouse, safe in the knowledge that each of the designs offer a robust multi-point locking mechanism with hook bolts and deadlock.
Working for an Estate Agency and accompanying would-be buyer’s on home viewings, Frances said “The windows in otherwise beautiful homes are often a talking point, as viewers feel they let the house down. Our new timber windows knock spots off any other windows I have seen. I have already recommended Sherborne Windows to friends and I’m looking forward to having a further casement window fitted later in 2020.”
